Our decades-long tradition as fine home builders spans back to 1937, the year Martin Andrew Spani moved to Vancouver from Saskatchewan and started his own construction company, Spani and Sons.
Martin Andrew Spani’s son Richard began working for the company at the tender age of 14 in 1943, learning all the skills and trades of the construction industry. By 1958 Richard took over the company, and with his brothers continued to build on a trusted name and a solid reputation until he retired in 1970.
Over his career, Richard built roughly 1,000 homes as well as some commercial buildings and apartment buildings. A record-setting year came in 1967 when Spani and Sons built a total of 88 houses. Spani and Sons were integral to the growth of their community. They developed 60 acres in Port Coquitlam, about 1% of the city’s total land.
Doug Spani grew up in this entrepreneurial atmosphere, learning valuable skills and a solid work ethic from his father’s and grandfather’s examples. After working alongside his father and uncles for several years, Doug ventured out to begin his own company, Spani Developments, in 1978.
Doug built residential homes in Port Coquitlam for a number of years, and then moved with his family to the beautiful Sunshine Coast. Since the early 1980’s Spani Developments has built a strong reputation as a family-owned and operated company. Currently Doug works alongside his brother Steve.
Because we are a family-owned company, our dedication to our customers remains a top priority. We strive to make you feel like you’re a part of our family.
