Our decades-long tradition as fine home builders spans back to 1937, the year Martin Andrew Spani moved to Vancouver and started his own construction company, Spani and Sons. His son, Richard, began working for the company at the tender age of 14 in 1943, and eventually took over the outfit until he retired in 1970.
Richard’s son, Doug Spani, grew up in the industry and after working alongside his father and uncles for several years, he ventured out and started his own company, Spani Developments, in 1978.
Doug built residential homes in Port Coquitlam for a number of years until he moved with his family to the Sunshine Coast in 1982. Since then, Spani Developments has built a strong reputation as a family-owned and operated company and completed hundreds of projects along the coast including public housing, medical building and facilities, commercial centres, property developments, off grid, eco-friendly homes, dream getaways and much more. Check out our portfolio to see some of our work.
As a family-owned business, our dedication to our customers remains a top priority. We strive to make you feel like you’re a part of our family.
Spani Developments’ strength lies in its employees who bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to any building project. Our team will ensure your home is completed with honesty and integrity on time and on budget. More than a collection of talented home builders, project managers, equipment operators, carpenters and finishers, we’re a team—and the difference is evident in every job we do.
As a long-time resident of the Sunshine Coast, Doug and his dedicated team have selflessly given their time and talents to help build a stronger community and support a variety of local initiatives.
Whether the contribution is financial, providing community services, or sitting on boards or committees, Spani Developments steps in when action is needed. Some of the many causes Spani Developments has supported include:
• Emergency housing at St. Hilda’s Church and the Upper Deck • The Sechelt Hospital Foundation Board • The Sunshine Coast Rotary Club • The Festival of the Written Arts |
• The Sechelt Food Bank • The Sunshine Coast Hospice Society • Habitat for Humanity • Search and Rescue • And many more |
