OUR STORY

Our decades-long tradition as fine home builders spans back to 1937, the year Martin Andrew Spani moved to Vancouver and started his own construction company, Spani and Sons. His son, Richard, began working for the company at the tender age of 14 in 1943, and eventually took over the outfit until he retired in 1970.

Richard’s son, Doug Spani, grew up in the industry and after working alongside his father and uncles for several years, he ventured out and started his own company, Spani Developments, in 1978.

Doug built residential homes in Port Coquitlam for a number of years until he moved with his family to the Sunshine Coast in 1982. Since then, Spani Developments has built a strong reputation as a family-owned and operated company and completed hundreds of projects along the coast including public housing, medical building and facilities, commercial centres, property developments, off grid, eco-friendly homes, dream getaways and much more. Check out our portfolio to see some of our work.

As a family-owned business, our dedication to our customers remains a top priority. We strive to make you feel like you’re a part of our family.

OUR TEAM

Spani Developments’ strength lies in its employees who bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to any building project. • WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND

“As past Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity Sunshine Coast, I’ve had the pleasure of working with Spani Developments to help meet the housing needs of our low-income Sunshine Coast families. In assessing potential buildings for the Wilson Creek project, it was important that we partnered with a builder who shared our commitment to increasing the supply of affordable housing on the coast and could engage our partners, donors, families and suppliers during the construction process. Project Manager Ian McGinnis and his team worked seamlessly with Habitat supporters, local government, funders and Habitat families to complete a number of homes on time and within budget and consistently exceeded expectations by providing cost effective and creative solutions to maximize Habitat’s impact on the community.”

  • QUALITY HOMES, BUILT WITH INTEGRITY

“As a licensed home inspector, I am in many homes – some old, some new. When I discuss the home with realtors, one constant comment is Well it’s a SPANI home, so it goes without saying. Kudos to you for converting your commitment, integrity and skills into quality homes for the people of the Sunshine Coast.”

  • IMPECCABLE WORK
“My Mom and I would like to send a BIG thanks to Spani Developments for making her dream home. Before my Father passed away he always wanted my Mom to live in a safe, beautiful house for the rest of her years. Spani Developments made one of my Father’s last wishes come true. They renovated her 1953 home and transformed it into a masterpiece. We can’t thank Larry Hunt enough for his kindness, creativity and guidance through this process. Larry and his team went above and beyond our greatest expectations. Warren and Brandon were an absolute pleasure to work with and did impeccable work. We strongly recommend Spani Developments for anyone looking to renovate or build a home on the Sunshine Coast.”
